Melbourne-based interior designer Fiona Lynch is opening a permanent gallery Work Shop in Collingwood, coinciding with NGV Melbourne Design Week. A curated showcase of experimental design, fine art, and objects, Work Shop will display work from Australian and international artists and designers, including commissioned and original pieces. By identifying commonalities across mediums and materials, Work Shop aims to unpack the relationship between art and design.
Inspired by Fiona Lynch's career, the gallery will serve as a space for her eponymous interior design practice, as well as a laboratory, giving visitors a comprehensive understanding of the creative process. Fiona Lynch studied fine arts at RMIT in Melbourne before studying interior design. The precipitation and accumulation of that period are directly reflected in my approach to work and design. This gallery will give her and her studio the opportunity to explore further... Examine the dialogue between art and design in a way that challenges and inspires.
The gallery's opening exhibition, Ideas to Intuition, will feature outstanding artists from all over the world who represent their Ideas in a unique way. The works of these artists will be displayed alongside original designs by Fiona Lynch. Because in this age of desire, it's easy to be guided by the end result and forget about the creative process needed to reach the end result. In Fiona Lynch's first exhibition, they will call on artists to explore the tension between structure, imperfection and unfinished, encouraging visitors to discover beauty at all stages of creation.
