The new hermit: restrained and delicate daily life 

This is a private residence located at the foot of Nanshan Mountain in Chongqing. It has been 12 years since the owner bought it.

Because of its unique urban geography, Chongqing has rapidly developed into a lively and extraordinary Internet celebrity city. However, as local people, they did not feel happy for that change. They hoped that their life could be relaxed, and they could enjoy life more calmly，so that they can have their own exquisite daily life .

For this reason, JSD regard their lives as "new hermits." The "hermit" here is not an attempt to escape from real life, but a self-styled way of seeking a state of life that truly belongs to him, and fully enjoying the transformation and connection between life, work, and society, let them coexist harmoniously in another way. Because，this is the so-called great hidden in the world.

ATMOSPHERE: WABI-SABI

Wabi-sabi is not a single state. Wabi and Sabi are actually two states. Among them, Wabi is usually defined as a simple and simple state, which is a kind of tranquility based on nature; and Sabi refers to the beauty of change and fade with time or use traces and other factors. When the two words are put together, it means "as time grows, the beauty of simplicity and tranquility is found in imperfections".

However, this kind of beauty with a sense of incompleteness is not fully in line with the current people’s understanding of quality life. Therefore, it is also necessary to properly reflect the sense of value in the design, such as expressing through material demands, so that to improve the texture and modern atmosphere in the space scene. Therefore, modern Wabi-Sabi was redefined in this case, giving it new value.

Here, the architectural space constructs a simple, quiet, and easy-to-living spatial state; and The indoor space has a natural symbiosis with outdoor green plants, sunlight, wind and rain. They change due to time, season, and climate, which serve as inspiration for new life. At the same time, paint, wood, and cement, as part of the building foundation, also accept the existence of time and precipitate traces of the process of use. This change, and finally turn into a kind of memory and emotion, coexisting with architecture.

The manifestation of value is given to furniture, utensils, artwork, and those products that we often use. This value is convenient and comfortable, and it is the guarantee and embodiment of quality. Because, in the state of contemporary life, the expression of wabi-sabi is just a life attitude, rather than the extreme restraint of meditation .

EXPERIENCE：CALM AND COZY

All ideologies need to be embodied through the feeling of things. Design is no exception. We hope to provide the owner with an extremely comfortable perception experience through the creation of the space atmosphere. And this extremely comfortable experience comes from three aspects.

One is to use wabi-sabi to make the space present an overall visual atmosphere perception. We use a large number of basic buildings to build spatial relationships, and create a peaceful state through a large area of old paint which also be closely related to the sense of age. At the same time, we use the interweaving relationship of a variety of woods to construct a warm and diverse spatial hierarchy, which is perceptually related to the subtle changes of time. As a result, time, space, texture, and temperature are connected in a perceptual way to achieve an extremely comfortable spatial experience.

The second is to achieve an extremely comfortable state through touch. All materials or utensils that come into contact with the body, including sunlight and temperature, will interact with the skin. Therefore, in the selection of furniture and utensils, whether it is logs, fabrics, rattan, ceramics, or leather, it will follow the principles of exquisiteness, softness, naturalness, matte, and low saturation. The appropriate use of unpolished copper metal for details embellishment not only enhances the sense of value, but also enriches the spatial perception experience in terms of tactile relationship.

Third, obtaining a rich home experience at a relatively low cost is also an extreme psychological comfort. The liberal pragmatism advocated by JSD has always emphasized the design concept of no waste and no redundancy. All design aesthetics are closely related to actual use demands and space functions. At the same time, we take the irreplaceable staircase function as the core and link of the entire interior design. It not only plays the role of the most brilliant protagonist in the entire design, but also associates the functional atmosphere and mood of each layer of space.

At this moment, our restraint is meaningful. It will find a proper balance in the relationship between vision, atmosphere, value, comfort, and input and output. And this balance will also bring a more ideal living experience for the owners.
