Slot House is a minimalist residence located in Park City, Utah, designed by KLIMA. Chris Price, an architect renowned for his innovative designs, embarked on a unique project after a chance encounter with a finance executive through their shared passion for climbing. The client's proposition to construct a home in Utah sparked a collaborative journey, resulting in a breathtaking residence overlooking Park City's scenic landscapes. Through a flurry of discussions and design iterations, Price and his client crafted a vision that seamlessly integrates with the natural surroundings while embodying the client's aspirations and Price's architectural principles.
Situated amidst the sprawling vistas of the Wasatch Back, the 6,394-square-foot house emerges as a testament to Price's meticulous attention to detail and his commitment to creating spaces that harmonize with their environment. By strategically breaking down the expansive structure into intimate spaces, Price evokes the rugged beauty of slot canyons, inviting a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors. This design ethos extends to the interior, where a carefully curated hierarchy of spaces accentuates the home's connection to its surroundings while fostering a sense of warmth and comfort.
At the heart of the residence lies a kidney bean-shaped courtyard, surrounded by overhangs that echo the geological formations of the region. Inspired by nature, these architectural elements not only provide shelter but also serve as a visual reminder of the home's symbiotic relationship with its surroundings. Moreover, rooted in the principles of the Passivhaus movement, the home exemplifies energy efficiency, featuring innovative insulation techniques and sustainable building materials that minimize its environmental footprint. Through this project, Price demonstrates his unwavering dedication to crafting spaces that not only reflect the aspirations of his clients but also respect and enhance the natural landscape.
