The third and final restaurant to join The Calile Hotel is bringing elegant Japanese cuisine to Brisbane. The Sushi Room’s interior – designed by the team at Richards & Spence – possesses a kind of pared-back minimalism that could have come straight out of Tokyo.
It was 1960s neo-futurism and midcentury pop that shaped the inspiration for this intimate space. Stone-topped tables and grey upholstered booths surround the 9.3-metre solid Japanese hinoki timber counter where all the magic, theatre and performance happens, enhanced by its cinematic lighting.
Upstairs, bright red walls form a private dining room, contrasting with the simple timber communal dining table. The top of the wooden communal table is a dome with a textured top. It brings a feeling of extra theatrical performance.
