Located along Nishikiriin Dori between Nishi Honganji and Higashi Honganji, this hotel is located in a quiet area with many Buddhist altar stores. Taking the location a little away from the center, which is crowded with tourists, as one of the individuality, we aim to create a calm space and a hotel where people can feel the "depth" of Kyoto's history and culture. The designer wanted to create a charm unique to this hotel, which is different from the hotel that wears it as a finish.
Suppose Design Office wants to express the depth of space composition. From this concept to the atmosphere Design of space and experience, it creates a certain iconic "Kyoto impression", such as lattice and tiled roof. Entering the courtyard, an ornamental garden with "light", the designers further emphasized the importance of feeling the "depth" of the space by creating a stark contrast between a dark foreground and a bright courtyard.
What was important in this project was to design "senses" such as human vision, premonition, and imagination, such as the "maai" created by the relationship between objects and margins, and the existence of a garden reminiscent of a single stone. It is a design of a sequential experience that leads to the back and a feeling of atmosphere in the place. In addition to these, the concept of beauty rooted in Japanese culture, such as dry garden and tea ceremony. The designer thought that the ideal way of this hotel is to enjoy the depth with various interpretations depending on the sensibilities of visitors, including the sensibilities of landscaping, art, books, graphics, and food creators.
