The perfect home is the sum of many parts such as architecture, furniture, products, landscape, art, and more that play an important role in making the house thoroughly a modern and warm home. Curatorial House, one of Melbourne's newest contemporary high-end residential projects, exemplifies the value that these layers of culture bring to the project, particularly the value that art brings to the space.
Designed by local architecture studio Taylor Pressly Architects, Curatorial House's brief design is the result of the client's passion and adventurous spirit, as well as the talent of the creative team. Their goal is to ease the boundaries between art and interior, and they want to be able to offer a wide and complete range of art services to their clients.
With clean lines, sharp geometric shapes and calm tones, the house forms a tranquil setting in a leafy area of Melbourne's Toorak neighbourhood. The space is further enhanced by artistry, which embellishes the entire space, creating expressive tones and adding color. At times, it adds a playful feel to the complex interior of the home.
The house now houses 60 works of art by 27 artists and galleries from 15 cities. The pieces were deliberately chosen by the design team to work in harmony with the building, but still make their presence clear, with no bland pieces to blend into the background.
The skeleton of the building, such as long strips of glass, high ceilings and a three-storey void in the centre, is highlighted by carefully selected components in strategic locations. Perfect architectural details, materials and colours make for a complete family experience, a home where art is in sync with life.
