The Beton Brut Residence is a simple, functional Residence for a small entrepreneurial family with a distinct creative bent. The owner of the family is an enthusiastic poet, while his son is an avid wildlife photographer.

The home had to be built on about 12,000 square feet of land facing southwest. The main concern was to ensure that the building was protected from intense sunlight and heat. This is intertwined with the desire to create a dwelling with a sense of space. The realization of family reunion also leaves enough space for individual personality.

This meant that The Grid Architects had to ensure both a gathering place and a private place in The spatial narrative. Efforts were also made to pair the enclosed volume with the open area to amplify this sense of freedom and luxury. The studio proposed that the house combine the invisible with the physical, actually creating different experiences in its physical form.

A simple entrance, hidden under a concrete canopy, has a three-metre-high door that slopes outward and is embedded in stone. This is a long passage that leads to the living space on the left and finally to the wall of the backyard, which is decorated with gilded sculptures and reaches a visual climax. On the right, seating in the vestibule-style space is arranged to form the waiting lounge.

Turning around, the entire interior space unfolds within visual distance of the central landscaped courtyard: the formal living room, the dining area, the old couple's bedroom. Wet and dry kitchens are tucked away in one corner with the shop. Upstairs there are more bedrooms with ensuite amenities and walk-in dressers. All living Spaces are connected to a patchwork terrace or garden, allowing the occupants to keep in touch with the outside world.
