Papyrus is one of the high-end tenants of Seoul's famed Galleria West Hall department store. In addition to its namesake brand, the store also offers collections from luxury labels such as Thom Browne, Anne et Valentin and Linda Farrow. WGNB has designed a monochrome space for Papyrus in the Galleria department store, a departure from its previous location for the eyewear brand.
The designers referred to Dansaekhwa, the monochrome centered Korean painting movement of the 1970s, to envision the 60-square-meter retail space for eyewear. The glasses are gems of a minimalist interior, with rough textures juxtaposed with stainless steel, a black-and-white color scheme and walls of varying sizes -- straight, concave or convex -- that structure is a nod to the optical lenses themselves.
The interior design of Papyrus is markedly different from the brand's luxury residential apartments in Seoul and Galleria stores in Gwanggyo. The first collaboration with WGNB featured a more bold palette of cobalt blue and terra-cotta red, but was similar in tone immersion to the latest project. But these Spaces are not forgotten, and there is some value in making each outpost a worthwhile destination in its own right.
The strong focus on interior architecture and monochrome finishes made this project the reason for doing so, and everyone is looking forward to discovering what kind of surprise aesthetic the optical brand will adopt for its next space.
