Woods Dangaran, a Los Angeles-based architecture firm that focuses on creating modern homes through dialogue and exploration, has designed a Case Study House located in California. Conceived as a 21st century case study home, the house is a prototype to explore the potential of mature new custom homes in suburban Los Angeles.
Case Study House solves a complex challenge: providing residents with daylight, capturing prevailing breezes and creating inviting exterior Spaces on a standard-sized suburban plot, while maintaining a high quality interior space experience and comfortable privacy levels. To ensure that the living space of the house is quiet, comfortable and private.
Each space in the home has the right scale, as well as framed landscaping or access to the outdoors. Bounded by the family room and master suite, a two-story central atrium showcases a 30-year-old Japanese lodgepole pine.
The breakfast room opens onto the front yard, which is planted with richly textured ornamental grasses and olive trees. The interior Spaces are tightly proportioned and sequenced to create a synchronous experience of openness and privacy. Nooks, niches and small Spaces are carefully carved out of the open plan for relaxation.
