JINAU Restaurant
JINAU Restaurant: A Warm Ode to Rural Kazakhstan by ABR. Translated from Kazakh, JINAU means harvest, but it is not only the harvest itself that is gathered, but also the guests at the same table.
Set in the bustling heart of Almaty, Kazakhstan, JINAU by ABR gracefully blends rustic charm with refined craftsmanship. Spanning 623 square meters, this restaurant, which opened its doors in 2024, is a heartfelt reimagining of a traditional Kazakh barn, transformed into a cozy, nostalgic dining destination. Building on the success of their acclaimed projects like Aroma, Raw, and Astra, ABR once again demonstrates its prowess in creating immersive and memorable gastronomic spaces.
From the moment of entry, the interior envelops guests in an atmosphere that evokes childhood memories of village life. The high, sloped wooden ceilings, reminiscent of barn architecture, and the warm, earthy tones of clay, straw, and aged wood, create an authentic rural aesthetic. The dining area’s focal point—a striking cabinet with vintage glass panels—is adorned with sacks of grain and bundles of dried herbs, lending a sense of lived-in tradition. Wooden tables, paired with comfortable chairs, encourage gatherings imbued with the spirit of Kazakh hospitality and the joy of shared meals.
Craftsmanship lies at the heart of the design. From antique plows and stone mills to rustic carts sourced from local villages, every detail reflects the simplicity and beauty of rural life. The materials—aged glass, weathered wood, and micro-cement floors that resemble dusty barn grounds—add layers of texture and authenticity. The open kitchen layout showcases a variety of cooking techniques, including tandoor ovens, grills, and a dedicated pastry area. This transparency invites guests to witness the creation of hearty, home-inspired dishes, adding a dynamic culinary experience to the warm atmosphere.
JINAU harmoniously bridges rural nostalgia with urban sophistication, successfully bringing the essence of Kazakh village life to the rooftop of a city shopping center. With its thoughtful use of natural materials, carefully selected decor, and a focus on handcrafted elements, ABR continues to redefine the art of creating meaningful dining experiences.
