Set within the historic Normanby Chambers, Chancery Lane reinstates the charm and decadence of the building, while introducing an immersive dining experience celebrating chef Scott Pickett’s signature cuisine. With the ambition to create an 'instant institution' , we sought to craft a rich and memorable dining atmosphere; a place of comfort, serenity and celebration. 

Our wish to reveal the original bones of the building was an ambitious feat, with much of the historic fabric in ruin. The existing layout was constrained and impractical, requiring extensive spatial strategy and engineering to give clarity and coherence. Incongruous additions, including sizeable banking safes, were stripped away, while entry points were re-defined to establish an intuitive spatial sequencing throughout. 

Grand arched bar shelving creates a dramatic sense of arrival. A sinuous timber and leathered marble bar encourages a meandering experience, offering glimpses between diverse dining atmospheres, with spaces to socialise, retreat, dine and dwell. Materially-driven and tactile, the design is sympathetic to the building’s age and imperfection – enlivened by an array of artistic expressions by local Melbourne makers.
