The PNY burger chain was founded in 2012 with a burger restaurant in the Marais center of Paris. Conceived by Belgian architect Bernard Dubois, this unique all-wood burger bar immerses customers in a cool vintage atmosphere. The 50-square-meter restaurant far outweighs its compact size. The expressive and visually striking interior demonstrates a persistent pursuit of detail, with the height of the ceiling being the main means of organization. Dubois is known for blurring the boundaries between various stylistic genres, and the restaurant draws on various references for its design. The shape of the arch draws on a recurring theme of the Louvan-la-Neuve Science Library in Belgium, a building beloved by brutalist author Andre Jacqmain.
The frame form is represented by a ceiling with a series of dark wood arches, inverted stainless steel arches for the feet of stools, glass for door handles, light wood for chairs, and plaster reliefs on the walls. Like Carlo Scarpa, each detail leads to another, smaller detail, which leads to a smaller detail following suit. Guenair, the founder of PNY, has a self-proclaimed mission to make the best burger the French capital has ever seen.
