This countryside residence was initially conceived in a neoclassical style, complete with ornate boiserie, marble fireplaces, mirrored panels, and parquet flooring — a richly decorative concept that ultimately felt overwhelming to the client. Seeking a more contemporary, restrained, and meaningful environment, he invited our team to reinterpret the interior while construction was already underway.

The client — an art collector and bibliophile— envisioned a home that functioned as a personal retreat, a library, and an informal gallery. It was to be a place of solitude and reflection, as well as quiet gatherings. While respecting the architectural framework already in place, we proposed a new interior concept built on clarity, texture, and emotional resonance.

Our task was to reduce visual noise without stripping the space of its character. Original decorative elements were reworked: wall panels were simplified and reimagined in warm wood veneers with subtle detailing; marble fireplaces and classic elements were retained only in select zones, paired with contemporary furniture and sculptural accents.

Natural materials guided our approach. In the bedrooms and bathrooms, log walls were treated with a soft, warm-toned paint to reveal their grain. Large-format porcelain tiles with a concrete texture by Mirage were used throughout wet areas, and veneered panels in the living and kitchen zones formed a visual bridge between traditional log and modern detailing. The palette — neutral and earthy — serves as a backdrop for the client’s art collection and creates a unified, breathable environment.

The furniture in the project is restrained in color but expressive in form. We curated an eclectic yet coherent selection of pieces from diverse manufacturers. A standout element in the living room is a three-meter chandelier that serves as the central focus of the double-height space — graphic, natural, and profoundly contemporary. The fixture offers a sculptural presence that shifts with the viewer’s perspective, playing with natural light and architectural volumes.

Suspended along the main axis of the house, the chandelier subtly interacts with noble materials and the clean lines of the furnishings, blending tradition with modernity. It anchors the space, embodies the free spirit of the interior, and reinforces the atmosphere of a home designed for living, contemplation, and collecting — complete with custom-designed bookcases.
