Designed by Busan, South Korea-based studio Designby83, SSAP is a pastry and coffee restaurant located next to Ulsan's Grand Park. The client asked the studio to design a space that was retro and stylish while trying to convey a history and original traces that could coexist.
In contrast to the traditional retro and funky image, Design By 83 comes up with its own interpretation of the space, which includes sustainability. Despite the passage of time, when they thought about design, they wanted it to continue and deepen. During the demolition of the interior space, almost all the structural elements were deliberately preserved, consisting of exposed rough concrete walls, worn floor tiles, cold metal Windows and simple glazing.
The combination of the interior Spaces, through the arrangement and artificial decoration as easily as possible, allows people to feel the simplicity and natural change of physical properties. It creates a harmonious ambience of both sides, with the aim of simultaneously feeling visually comfortable in the vertical lines of warm wood and metal. It is also designed as an acrylic lighting form that has an organic relationship with this spatial form.
This takes into account the sensibility of MZ's generation, which is characterized by seeking experiences that are different from existing trends, while remaining familiar and comfortable for those who remember the place, so the exterior was created to blend it with the original old red brick. It accentuates the neatness of the horizontal rectangular Spaces with enlarged facades and visually adds depth with wood, separated from metal, a material that is unlikely to be altered.
