Located in Jardins, São Paulo, the Autem Apartment is a comprehensive renovation project designed for a young couple. This duplex balances floor plan and spatiality with sobriety and precision. The lower level is organized around a symmetrical circulation axis that culminates in a double-height living room—an inflection point in the project’s spatial narrative.
Verticality is emphasized by a metal helical staircase connecting the two floors, while continuous panels discreetly conceal functions such as the kitchen, wine cellar, and office, offering a more abstract reading of the program.
Materiality is the project’s main driver. A base of light travertine merges with volumes clad in dark wood, creating striking visual and tactile contrasts. The use of natural fabrics, cane, and dense curtains reinforces this strategy, crafting a sophisticated sensory palette without resorting to superfluous ornamentation. The furniture selection—mostly Nordic pieces sourced internationally—places the project within a context of meticulous curation, where each item acts as an extension of the architecture.
The upper floor houses three suites, one of which is preceded by a contemplative anteroom. A meditation room reinforces the intimate character of this level, in contrast to the social functions of the floor below. On the rooftop, the project includes a terrace with a pool, gourmet area, and a small gym, which, though outdoors, follow the same logic of formal restraint and material emphasis. The design relies on constructive clarity and precise detailing as the main conduits of the spatial experience.
