The semi-transparent sculptural forms are woven from insubstantial strands of hair, representing ineffable thoughts and memories.

Jayoung Yoon is a New York-based artist born in Korea, known for her interdisciplinary artworks that utilize human hair as a medium. She graduated from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Cranbrook, Michigan, in 2009. Her works have been exhibited in the United States and Korea, and she has been awarded the BRIC Media Arts fellowship, the Franklin Furnace Fund, and the Ora Schneider Regional Residency Grant.

Jayoung Yoon's work is composed of strands of her own hair and other natural materials that are hand-knotted or woven into forms, creating intricate sculptures and installations. The nearly weightless sculptures move in space with the shifting airflow and respond to the viewer’s movements. These subtle movements and intricate details shift the viewer’s awareness of their surroundings, introducing perceptions that are often taken for granted. Additionally, the semi-transparent sculptural forms are intricately woven from delicate strands of hair, symbolically embodying ineffable thoughts and memories.

In Jayoung Yoon's recent work, she draws inspiration from Buddhist philosophy, specifically the concepts of form and emptiness, highlighting the inter-connectedness and ever-changing nature of all phenomena. Through her art, Jayoung Yoon embarks on a poetic exploration of form and emptiness, delving into the question of what emptiness truly signifies. Her works evoke a sense of fragility, inviting viewers to reflect upon the transient nature of life. By intricately interweaving and knotting different fiber materials over time, Jayoung Yoon hints at the underlying interconnectedness of all beings, symbolizing the interwoven fabric of existence.
