"Dong"(East) and "Xi"(West) are good words with the meaning of orientation and the five elements, containing the concept of space and cultural attributes. They also refer to various specific or abstract people, affairs, and objects...The two words are also the name of the restaurant, which is a coincidence. My friend Xiao Yu named it. So this place grew up according to the name.

The elegant bamboo railings, the dark sand courtyard, and a banyan tree with ten-arms-long circumference stand in front of the eyes, which form the exact appearance right after entering. Of course, this scene can be vaguely seen outside the old "Dong Xi" steel door plate. No matter how many times I come in, I still like the entering appliance made of bamboo-steel as a gate. It is hollow, tortuous, not that tough, and not that alienated. It doesn't deliberately create a sense of distance, so it is rich in all kinds of temperaments and more able to open up on an enchanting view. The old stones of the stair were found in other places. Some were used to pave the way.  Because of the minerals they contain, there are a few stones in the middle quietly casting lights.

Red soil is suitable for the growing of banyan trees. But the one that grows perfectly and also fits the yard perfectly truly deserves more love. The layout and circulation of the entire space are actually derived from this tree. The stair enclosed by steel plates encircles the tree and descends step by step. Black sands fill the interspace of the stair, which looks like a slowly flowing water, shaping the scenery in "Dong Xi" into a more beautiful status.

I have always had affection on the rammed earth wall. It not only implies the profound cultural heritage and long history but also has the good qualities of environmental, waterproof, earthquake-resistant and durable. Above all, the rammed earth wall is very good looking. It is a material that can rhyme with air, breaths, and time. Touching the outer walls of "Dong Xi", I can feel the power of nature.

"Dong Xi" isn't only literal, which means the division of east and west. In addition to the meaning of East Learning West, you can also look at east and west to find the hidden theory of the East and the construction method of the West in the contrasts of the East and the West.

Handmade door handles are specially custom made. Embedding light strip in the wall is the key to embody and break the conventional rhythm. The various installations inside or outside the architecture are transformed into the motives of artistic vision according to the spatial relationship.  The wall patterns that seem like random collages are actually arranged according to aesthetics. Such as the pillar that bares the single shoulder, the shape of the lights, and the branches above the lights like the art of Kiefer ... I like these little details. All the feelings come from the love of design and life. Experiencing the rich knowledge from the East to the West, feeling the visual effect of seeing a big issue from a small detail, people will be surprised that it only covers a space of hundred square meters.

The slabs create an atmosphere for Pingshan. Breeze and drizzle decorate Lingnan. Only a few bougainvilleas are in bloom and quietly stand by. The vine has just arrived and not freely grown. But at the foot of the mountain, weeds grow in the gap of the old tiles like a miniature field. They are very happy to stretch freely. The transparent and translucent resin mountains extend, undulating up and down and echoing back and forth. When the intelligent design of light cast down, it forms a circle, covering the crude cups burned by the wood kiln, a variety of unglazed wares, golden-decorated plates, and small bowls. The long-burning candlelight leaps and dances, reflecting the elegance of the simple objects. The faces by the table are also softened and beautified by the light. Regardless of their gender or relationship, they are particularly comfortable and eye-catching. I am really fond of the consideration and humanistic care for details. I think it is a promise for a good design.

A piece of wood with a diameter of one meter is a bit rare, especially with a length of four meters. But since it is already a piece of wood,  allowing it to continue to grow in space is another tribute to life. With the big trunks by their side, guests faced each other and blended themselves into the landscape, warming the space and then forming an energy field. I probably like this space more, because the circulating waterscape is progressive layer by layer. The water falls down layer by layer. The waves encircle waves, breaking lights and the night, like the stopped time and space or an unstoppable heart. The brown organic glass and the lamp hanging over the table reflect the water in the pool. After a long chat, guests will feel upside-down. Leather and marble utilize copper to bridge the relationship between soft and hard, forming a very harmonious combination. The partition with a double-layered yarn at the entrance makes the figure look like an old picture scroll. Beyond the appearance of the object, get its connotation. The face disappears and everything emerges.

The two places of "Dong Xi" echo each other but are different. The two tea tables near the yard are of different styles. Their atmospheres are also created and defined variously. But what they want to embody is both the art of coexistence between human and environment. What they want to express is both a state of mind that "being modest as well as being yourself" in this world and the value orientation that being abundant and having positive advocacy. These are reflected in the cup of perfectly-made tea, the service staff's customized watered gauze uniform, the quality-controlling process of the ingredients, and the selection of artistic ornaments...

Whether it’s a banquet, a friends' reunion, or a sip of wine. Everyone gets happy and satisfied, going east or west.
