Founded in 2009, Parts and Labor Design is a full service design firm specializing in hospitality, commercial, retail, and residential projects. In 2024, Parts and Labor Design’s partners launched Known Work, a collection-based design studio that offers livable sculpture for the home. In February, they presented their first series, "Perceptions," at the Zona Maco in Mexico City, as part of the "Sculpture" exhibition, held jointly with artist Jorge Yazpik and curated by Materia.

Inspired by the idea of a home as an aesthetic extension of oneself and‘a jewel box that holds one’s treasured belongings’, partner Danu Kennedy and founder Jeremy Levitt examined which characteristics of an object make them feel most at home, calling upon 20-plus years of the interior design shared expertise now applied to their collectible furniture and object studio. The result led them to their nine-piece debut collection, KW 01 Perceptions Collection, which presents a tension and contrast articulated through elegant geometries paired with soft materials.

The Perceptions Collection was realized through a meticulous attention to detail, as well as Kennedy and Levitt’s deep reverence for craftsmanship. The collection features works such as: a sculptural yet soft, cocoon-like, wood-backed chair and coordinating settee; a cylinder-footed plinth that comes in burl wood, aluminum, lacquer, or stainless steel (as does a shorter“cube” that functions as a side table, or, when arranged in multiples, a coffee table); lamps made from steel and mold-blown glass; a pert ottoman; a glass catchall; and ceramic candleholders. Combined in the context in which they are situated, these works are like flowing vignettes that contain moments in time, an experience worth having. The symmetry of the architecture and the textured finishes blend harmoniously, yet they are uniquely bold and enduring in their individuality.“Our pieces are kinetic, an ode to conversation, to discovery,”Kennedy says.

Known Work's selected works complement Jorge Yazpik's towering sculptures, creating a larger landscape and sensory dialogue between art and design, form and function.“His work is so beautiful and really resonates with the merging of craft, art, and objects we’re looking to explore with Known Work, says Levitt of Yázpik’s sculptures, which resemble architectural models, similarly use natural materials to explore the juxtaposition between the manmade and the organic.“ Danu Kennedy says：”Our pieces accentuate the viewership of Jorge’s work, but also in walking around and through his sculptures, or sitting on one of our pieces, you can interact, observe, and participate.”

“Everyone’s experience of the world is different. No two perceptions are the same, we are unique beings and filter the world through individual lenses,” says Kennedy.“This collection is an offering to that in a way — an offering to how you perceive your environment and the things in it.”
