Passing, passing away is our nature,If we understand the thousands of artists in the past,Will be fully aware of our personal insignificance,At the same time know what we have made,Few things become an eternal existence,This is the quiet and lasting essence of ceramics。
Gustavo is a ceramist from Mexico. The utensils he makes are simple, smooth and symmetrical. The precision of the cutting lines and other markings on the utensils reflects elegance. He likes to use sand-colored stoneware in his works, realizing a wide range of forms and patterns, including textures that slowly undulate under a delicately cut surface.
Each of Gustavo's works is a unique invention that combines symmetry and intuitive sensitivity. Almost all of his works are completed on pottery wheels, starting from a beautiful sand-colored container, rotating it in successive stages, compressing it, and as the container deforms, it paradoxically presents a series of mysterious forms of existence.
In the past two decades, Gustavo has created a visual language similar to music. The texture is rhythmic, and the surface texture can also show his painting level. There are parallel lines, calligraphy traces, geometric cuts, and traditional Spanish vases. Memories and references to other ancient cultures. The form is pure, completely abstract, and there is no specific association. His line language, the bending of the form and the definition of the container signify that his work is a unique sound. The form is not just a container, it can also be an architecture.
