Elysium House is a reworking of an existing architectural home as a contemporary home for a young family.The clients wanted the home to be a meeting place for their family and friends, a place for entertaining, and a place for their young family to grow and thrive.

After being referred by another client, this family commissioned Nickolas Gurtler to transform the house into a home that was liveable, comfortable, and elegant. Creating a sense of harmony and connection between the spaces was crucial - it required each space to be looked at in a considered and holistic way to develop a relationship between architecture and interior design.

Nickolas Gurtler approach was to break down the colossal spaces and monochromatic colour palette to introduce a human element and scale. Across the home, tonal variations in vibrant yellows and muted greens act as a vessel to bring warmth and life to each space, layered with a highly textured palette of materials that are raw and refined, patinated and polished. This is expressed throughout the spaces by updating finishes and fixtures to enhance the architecture, juxtaposing finishes like Venetian plaster with fixtures in aged brass and raw quartzite.
