Lake Tahoe House
Lake Tahoe is located in Truckee, California, which is about 10 miles from Lake Tahoe. The 1-acre project was purchased by the Trollopes couple in 2018. By March 2020, construction was completed, allowing the family to move into the house when the pandemic hit, temporarily moving out of their San Francisco home.
The owner, who used it as a refuge during the pandemic, liked the sense of isolation that was characteristic of it, as his daily life was often surrounded by people, meetings and noise, and the house was designed to be the opposite of that in every way. The difference between the indoor and outdoor material configurations of Lake Tahoe house is minimal. Because the design studio wanted to evoke a sense of wilderness travel, the spirit of escape and discovery that comes with arriving at a unique place, these feelings are crucial in connection with the space.
If the connection to the space is important, then that means finding the right interior designer is Paramount. So they approached Nicole Hollis to design their new home. For anyone who steps into this home, they will immediately sense a lot of inspiration from Donald Judd, as the whole space is pervaded by smooth minimalism. But the Nicole Hollis design team and the owners were looking for more than just a Judd atmosphere.
The house is built around a central courtyard that is partially covered by a cantilevered roof. As all four Windows surround the inner courtyard, the fire from the pit lights up the house and makes it look like a campsite. The home is an escape from the pressures of city life and a way to create formative memories in a new environment.
