American design studio Nicole Hollis has designed a timeless home designed to showcase and appreciate a world-class art collection. The tone of the interior is set in the entrance foyer, where a white plaster staircase reveals its elegance to visitors, while a mirror-polished bronze pumpkin by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama decorates the entire white elegance of the entrance area. Nicole Hollis proposed this dramatic modern form to replace the traditional palisade staircase. It took everyone by surprise because it was extraordinary and avant-garde.
The most ambitious dining room in the space was commissioned by Paris-based artist Ingrid Donat, who made fluted wood paneling for the walls, custom lighting, dining table, fireplace wraparound and crown molding, all of which are hand-cast in bronze. The room was made in Donat's studio in France; Each piece was numbered and shipped on pallets to San Francisco, where it was installed by local artisans. So it took a year and a half to complete.
A large floor-to-ceiling window on the second floor offers a better view over a dense wooded area. In the distance is San Francisco's lush Presidio Park, within easy living circle.
