Norm Architects was commissioned by Tea brand BASAO Tea to design their Tea house in Xiamen. When the bustling cityscape is replaced by calm sounds, one feels a momentary change in rhythm. Subtle colours and rich textures are highlighted by carefully selected materials, as natural light filters in from the outside, making the space feel warm, while the atmosphere is rooted in the local cultural context.
BASAO Tea captures the aroma of Tea, the fragrance of the seasons, the spirit of tradition and the power of nature to create an authentic and focused experience that touches all the senses and nourishes the soul. While respecting tradition, BASAO Tea is committed to exploring the practice of Tea in new and creative ways, which is reflected in their products, reinterpreting the essence of classic Tea.
This teahouse on a Xiamen street offers both nearby residents and passers-by a place of quiet contemplation, an antidote to the fast-paced, busy culture of immersing themselves in the sound of tea being made and poured. The tea counter experience is felt by all senses; The feel of the countertop, the heat of the cup, the sound of the ceramic container touching the surface; Aside from the smell of tea, there are a variety of flavors to create a warm and relaxing feeling.
