When the cityscape is replaced by calm sounds, there is a momentary change of rhythm. Dentology is a private dental practice in Belgium designed by Danish design studio Norm Architects. As natural light filters in from the outside, highlighting the subtle colours and rich textures of the carefully selected materials inside the clinic, the space feels warm and friendly. The materials chosen evoke different feelings, while the building is a comfortable framework around its function.
As the pace of life quickens and modern life demands more attention and people need calm, thoughtful moments of self-care, then reflection becomes key This clinic is far away from the look and feel of a typical dental clinic establishment, the new space is quiet, calm and warm. The firm's goal is to redefine and reshape the dental experience, with a sensibility at its heart that acknowledges the importance of materials and the way natural light affects our health.
Norm Architects used the cave-like features of the low concrete basement to create a down-to-earth atmosphere. The heavily sculpted Spaces create a dynamic, unique and luxurious feeling, while the quality and solidity of the materials act as a vehicle to construct an experience rich in warmth, serenity and calm.
When the studio decided that in architecture and design, defining space should not only consider the lines drawn, but also consider the intervals between them. On top of this heavy foundation, lightweight wooden cubes are placed to create rooms in the middle and inside of the ground floor, creating circulation of flow and nature while also constructing important functions within the clinic.
In contrast to the basement, the upper level is a light and airy expression that welcomes its visitors in the most comfortable way. Resembling the atmosphere of an art gallery in many ways, the translucent materials, warm natural light and carefully designed objects make the space anything but an ordinary dental clinic. This carefully combined design of materials reshapes the patient's experience and perception.
