Berkshire Residence, a naturalistic, minimalist modern home in the northeastern us state Of Massachusetts, has been designed by New York-based interior design studio Of Possible. The aim of the house was to create a contemporary design based on local vernacular architecture.
Clients are looking for a framework to carry memories of the original home from their youth on the site, which includes an apple orchard, barn, east horse corral, yard and garden, evergreen and wetland North Canyon, and a 70 foot tall canopy of large maple trees. They were torn between wanting a glass house or something more traditional.
The result is that every window and door of the home is a floor-to-ceiling photo frame, a memory space for the entire property. The architectural finishes are an understated hue, chosen to enhance the effect of these frames against the changing seasons of the New England landscape.
In the plain hues of the day, one moves from the interior space to the outdoor landscape. Similarly, when one approaches the house from the outside, the large terrace creates a similar exterior landscape frame and enters the interior. It's a home for creating new memories and honoring old ones.
