Permanence of Memory Grave

The designing of a tomb is a singular proposition, containing in itself a glossary of images referring to the memory of the life and to the creation of a space that, by its own nature, is able to bear the weight of that memory.

In practicing architecture, PHYD Arquitectura often turns to memories of his own experiences. These memories, when they are faced with a particular environment, help them to build their imagination and thus form a certain form and material spacicity. Being born, growing up, and dying; the linear sequence of human time. Season’s changes and the cadence of natural events are the cycles regardless of which this space must remain. Part of eternal time in its immobility, the tomb, containing life’s memory, is its permanence.

If death is mysterious, the place where they are buried is also an unfathomable carrier of space. The design of the cemetery is a unique proposition, which itself refers to the memory of life and the creation of space, which itself can carry the weight of such memory -- birth, growth and death. If life has a memory, so does death.

Human time is a linear sequence. The changing seasons and the rhythm of natural events are cycles that this space must maintain. A part of eternal time, standing still in the graveyard building, contains the memory of this life.

The mystery of death is certainly no stranger to the fact that, historically, funeral architecture has been prominent since ancient times. Yet, for all the charm metaphysics may have in architecture, the concrete reflections of the act of design are generally more prosaic. The whole building system develops from these pieces like a jigsaw puzzle.
