The original house was the result of a determined adaptation of the property, a brutalist building from the 1970s located on a central street in Madrid, to the conditions of the site. A complex geometry had given rise to multiple rooms, to a fragmented and dark home, an expression of a way of life now exhausted.

The proposal seeks to bring light, order, and character. And it does so not by pursuing novelty or the extraordinary exclusively, but by drawing from what is already familiar. In a way, it is a synthesis between the house that lives in our memory and something subtly new. It is atmosphere, dwelling, and room, rather than walls, partitions, or construction.

Access is located at the center of the house. It is yet another room, roughly square, with its own identity: the image the house offers even to a stranger. The daytime rooms face the main façade, toward a street that is neither narrow nor wide, richly lined with trees.

These are now through spaces. The calm, even light that flows from the north-facing windows is balanced by the direct sunlight entering from the south, making one more aware of the passage of time and the changing seasons. The wooden flooring extends up the walls, gathering and embracing, like a nest, the different activities that characterize daily life. Rest and work, study and leisure, the kitchen and the tables: all expressing the act of sharing that gives meaning to the home, coexist in a space that is both continuous and fragmented.

The furniture, at times designed by the studio, completes the creation of a homogeneous, calm atmosphere, with familiar, repeated colors and textures. Toward the interior, circulation and service spaces remain discreet behind the light color of the wooden floors and continuous ceilings, a transition between the spaces we share by day and those we retreat to, more alone, at night. Walk-in closets precede the bedrooms, which are freed from wardrobes. As a result, the rooms reveal themselves as full of stillness and serenity. Altogether, it builds a place of calm, a refuge, simple and plain, a timeless house that introduces a quiet hope, a certain poetry, into our everyday lives.
