When Bombay-based designer Tamanna Punjabi Kapoor, of her eponymous label, entrusted us with the design of her flagship store in Delhi, the brief was simple - to create a space where she and her label could truly feel at home.

The design intent for the 1000-sqft store began as an exploration to articulate the essence of the label, reimagining the space beyond the confines of the sartorial realm —as a space that evokes a sense of belonging and comfort. This vision was realized through a thoughtfully restrained design language that embraces the rawness of materiality, attempting to craft a layered environment akin to one’s home.

As one glances at the façade, they are subjected to a staggered volume, highlighted by the centrally inset show window. The atypical window is framed by a composition of urns and boulders steeped in red mandana gravel on either side, blurring the boundaries between exterior and interior by fostering an illusion of spatial continuity.

Upon entering, one is greeted by paved cobblestones, traditionally used in the exterior that find their way indoors. The space unfolds as a choreographed interplay celebrating the contrast between raw textures and sleeker plugins commences—the seamlessly textured beige carcass is enveloped by a tall, grey screed skirting; while the rustic cobblestones are punctuated by sleek black rods supporting brass mirrors and hanging racks—elemental reinterpretations of the embellishments synonymous with the label’s couture.

A structural column, initially a site constraint, has been tactfully concealed in the layout through sculptural arches that frame the spaces around it, adding a sense of grandeur. The space is further enriched through curated historical accents including an antique jharoka, chakras, aged urns and fly-ash boulders, transforming the store into a living narrative of time and tradition.
