Paying homage to the design eras of the past, Fletcher House revives the past in a new playful setting. Se Déa clients moved from inner-city Paddington to Tamarama and sought a revamp to their new coastal retreat with style and personality to match their own edgy, vintage and bold taste. The brief was to reconcile the aesthetic with the architecture and the environment but modernise the internal spaces.
Se Déa were inspired to design a space where coast meets the city – a juxtaposition of the earthy and textural qualities of the beach mixed with urban sophistication. Dark accents in aged metals are used carefully and sparingly, adding depth within the spaces. Stones in colours reminiscent of the ocean draw inspiration from the vast expanse of the sea that surrounds the home, adding a layer of playfulness to the palette.
In most rooms walls are left white and serve as the perfect backdrop for the eclectic and colourful pieces that decorate this home. The revival of classic pieces in a contemporary manner evokes a feeling of nostalgia in the home setting, giving the space a mildly retro vibe.
Upstairs to the master bedroom, there is a slight shift to a more earthy palette, still interlaced though with an edgy sophistication. Elements of wabi sabi aesthetic create a more serene space, as the master ensuite leads on to a relaxing sauna.
