This apartment is located in the heart of central Stockholm and was designed by Joanna Lavén and David Wahlgren and their team from Studio Lawahl. The apartment has a free and quiet location overlooking one of the capital's most popular parks, but with a lively part of the city just a stone's throw away and a wide range of cozy restaurants and cafes.
The clients had been following Studio Lawahl's work for a long time, so when it was time to move back to Sweden after some time abroad, they contacted the interior design studio. A collaboration was initiated and the goal was a pleasant and colorful home with a creative and international feel. The apartment's floor plan was thoroughly reviewed by the design studio and adjusted to better suit the family and the aesthetic expression that was sought.
The design of the home has since evolved, room by room, imbued with a mix of style influences from southern Europe and the USA. The apartment has many elements of natural materials such as dark woods and expressive stones, something of a signature for the design studio. Vintage objects are also frequently found, both in the apartment and in the studio's other projects, they create a unique and exciting character. Studio Lawahl makes extensive use of self-designed objects in order to make the best use of the spaces and create an original design for each room.
The kitchen was designed by Studio Lawahl and custom-made for the apartment, the materials are teak and Tiffany quartzite. The curved kitchen island is a real gathering point in the home, here there is space for a hob, oven and sink as well as work surfaces and a seat where the family eats breakfast. In the adjacent dining room, there is a specially designed sofa in the bay window that is used frequently, where the family likes to sit and read when they have a free moment.
The bathroom is clad in Cipollino rosso stone and teak panels. Behind the teak panelling there is hidden storage and in a niche in the teak walls of the bathroom we also find a custom-built towel rail, made by a local blacksmith. Inside the shower a steam sauna has been installed. The curves from the kitchen island are repeated in the master bedroom’s wardrobes, which were also designed by Studio Lawahl and then custom-built by a specialist joinery shop. The colour inside the bedroom is a deep blue tone, a calm yet exciting colour.
