Nostalgia Blue Jae

Bukchon was home to the upper class of the Joseon Dynasty until the 1920s. As the administrative boundaries of Seoul expanded in the 1930s, the urban structure of Bukchon would undergo a modern change. Hanok, located at 31 Gahoi-dong, is also a product of the era of collective standardization of housing management companies in the 1930s.

By adding convenience to modern life, materials such as glass and metal are used, and it can be seen that the Hanoks in the area were built according to the environment of the times. At that time, Creative Studio Unlabel took charge of the nostalgic blue material that was redeveloped as a stay while paying attention to the symbolism and site of the period when small and medium-sized hanoks were collectively constructed by Jeong Se-gwon, preserving the characteristics of each hanok as much as possible.

Blue materials have endured 80 years of hardship, and the ephemeral beauty of the material is emphasized by the lubrication. The high-quality glass emphasizing the unique patterns that the technology of the time was concentrated and the wooden panels of the well ceiling, each hand-carved with different patterns, still show their nobility. Perhaps the goal of this design is to work while preserving these heritages, and the present appearance of blue jae maintains the texture of the past.
