© 粤ICP备19077098号In the historic Am Tacheles complex in Berlin, a Polish-German couple of lawyers and their son found their new home, bringing nothing from their previous life except their shared passion for literature—and an impressive collection of over 700 books.Tasked with creating a space that housed their growing library while maintaining balance within the 140m² apartment, Agi Kuczyńska of TAKK Studio and Iwetta Ullenboom crafted a bespoke design that blends functionality, artistry, and timeless elegance.
At the heart of the apartment is a custom wooden structure that gracefully hugs the walls, with rounded corners that soften its presence. Stretching from the corridor into the living room, this feature seamlessly integrates storage, disguises bathroomdoors, conceals the television, and culminates in a striking library wall. The design is more than just a place for books—it’s a dynamic display for the family’s love of literature, art, and sculptural objects, creating a curated space that feels personal and inviting.
This project is a testament to how architecture can refect its inhabitants’ passions. By embracing the couple’s love for books as a central design element, the designers crafted a home that merges practicality with serene aesthetics. Natural materials like lime plaster, wood, and quartzite were used to create warmth and cohesion, offering a counterbalance to the industrial character of the building’s exposed concrete ceiling.
Throughout the apartment, minimalist bespoke furnishings add personality and fair. A bold purple vintage sofa becomes a centerpiece, while sculptural quartzite accents and softly curved furniture create visual harmony. Art plays an equally important role, with works by local artists, Eva Jablonsky, Peter-Maximilian Ronsdorf, and Ka Mochi enriching the interiors.
In the living area, deep purple piece contrasts beautifully with the lighter wood tones and minimalist design of the custom-made furniture. The bespoke cork coffee table and the dining area, featuring a custom-made table with chairs by Berlin-based design studio Loehr furniture, emphasize the blend of artistry and functionality. The dining space is illuminated by a Flos glass pendant, adding a touch of modernsophistication.
The kitchen is a standout with its Poliform design in a warm nutmeg color, highlighted by custom color-matching lamps over the kitchen island. A sculptural quartzite table leg and bespoke wall lamps in the entrance corridor, made from the same slightlytransparent stone, evoke the appearance of frozen water with their wavy shapes, adding a dynamic, organic element to thespace.
Ultimately, this apartment is more than just a home. It’s a literary and artistic sanctuary—a space where books, art, andthoughtful design come together to create a timeless refection of the family’s identity, all within a building rich with its own history and stories.
