The Clay Assemblage
Quite often I create my vessels directly from ideas and feelings I have in my head, it’s very rare that I draw and plan my creations. I work on a few vessels at the same time, having them next to each other on the table, there is certainly an influence from one vessel to the other within a collection. — Bilgin Bernard
The Clay Assemblage was founded by London-based designer and art director Bilgin Bernard. She started her ceramics practice in 2019, and during the first lockdown last year, she began using clay as an escape from routine work and screen-based design work.
She felt an immediate connection between confined Spaces and the experience of growing up as a child of German immigrants. Reexplore the meaning of space and identity, and think about one's identity within social boundaries. She spends time each day completely immersing herself in the process of shaping and shaping the clay without any deliberate end goal. Making these pieces became a therapeutic mission for Bernard, and the (Earth) In Isolation series of sculptures was born.
