Sik Mul Sung Store

Designed by design studios Unseenbird and Layer Studio, the Sik Mul Sung Store is a new project from N.THING, a company that operates smart farms, which have set up a container system to operate the farm on the outskirts of the city. A container farm was brought to a downtown building to expand its business to individual customers. The company created a brand called SIKMULSUNG and provides customers with vegetables grown on smart farms. SIKMULSUNG means Plant+Planet, a virtual star between Earth and Mars. The name reflects systems that can be cultivated in space, and its brand is a company with big dreams of building a farm on Mars.

Designed by Layer Studio and Unseenbird, the store’s message to customers is to experience the process of growing, harvesting, cooking and eating in one place. Teleportation boards have been installed in the store to convey this experience. The cultivation room is made of a system built by N.THING and decorated with glass to show the current state of the environment. One can see plants growing in waterways under artificial light and the people who take care of them. Vegetables grown here are harvested and used as ingredients for salads and ice cream, and when customers order food, the food is delivered by conveyor. A disk revolving around its long axis makes it possible to imagine a planet in orbit. It is also installed above the bar to provide fun for customers who like to dine.

For technical reasons, the vegetables of SIKMULSUNG have no soil and no sunlight. The main finish is stainless steel, which gives the feeling of an artificial environment in the store. It helps keep things clean and emphasizes that vegetables come from nature. Likewise, the floor, decorated with red pebbles, contrasts with the green, with the red sand of Mars in the background. Based on this story, red and green were used to compose the space, and materials such as acrylic were changed to the same color to make it less monotonous.
