© 粤ICP备19077098号Outpost is located within a resort named "Stonery," created with a stone-inspired concept, situated along the coastal area 70 km from Seoul.
Outpost is a space inspired by the historical "Dondae" in Ganghwa, South Korea. The Dondae is a circular stone fortress built during the Joseon Dynasty to attack enemies and maintain vigilance. By reinterpreting the tense atmosphere of the Dondae, Outpost provides a modern boundary where individuals can focus on nature and recharge.‘boundless freedom within the boundaries.’
The low circular walls, a key design element of the Dondae, offer a sense of maternal stability while also serving as a device that separates visitors’ lines of sight and movement, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in nature.
by mountains and the sea, Outpost consists of an outdoor second floor and an indoor first floor. The second floor features two concentric circular walls.
The inner circular space is completely open to the sky, encouraging visitors to focus on the vast openness above. The space between the two walls incorporates tall, narrow windows, allowing visitors to sit at tables while gazing at the surrounding landscape. These vertical openings resemble the gun ports (poja) of the Dondae, historically used for launching attacks.
At the center of the second floor, a 2-meter-diameter circular skylight directs natural light into the first floor, creating a seamless connection between the interior and exterior.
The first-floor interior consists of a central stone garden, low circular walls, and tiered seating areas. The lighting is intentionally subdued, emphasizing the dramatic effect of natural light and drawing attention to the scenery outside the windows.
The stone garden metaphorically reinterprets the Dondae by arranging natural stones with artificial lighting, symbolizing the essence of the fortress. The low circular walls separate circulation paths, while the difference in floor levels ensures that each guest’s line of sight is directed toward nature without obstruction.
