"Gardening is very much a performance art and, like all music and drama, a garden needs to be kept in order to maintain its relevance and vitality to its occupants or users, while preserving the status quo."
Luciano Giubbilei was born in Tuscany, Italy, and lived in London since childhood. After graduating from Inchbald School in London in 1997, he started his design practice as a horticulturalist. He founded his eponymous Luciano Giubbilei Studio, which is known for its humble, elegant and tranquil gardens.
Luciano Giubbilei designed Potter's House, his holiday home on the Mediterranean island of Majorca, and it took him five months to establish an intimate connection with the sanctuary. Therefore, he devoted a great deal of energy to the creation of the garden, which required both considerable physical effort and the sorting out of the basic relationships of the site. As a tribute to the house's previous owner, ceramist Maria Antonia Carrio, many of the old planters were preserved and a new idea for the garden was added.
At all times, the garden is an ideal, perfect and living artistic representation. Here, the personal experience is intimate enough with nature and the world to blur the boundaries between the senses, creating spiritual and physical freedom in an intimate setting. Perhaps even more gratifying, the garden reintroduces people to the body as a sensory organ, with different feelings and influences.
Gardening is a personal expression that exists in everyone's heart. What is seen in a garden is more than just what is in front of you. It is an art of the inner spirit, reflecting the gardener's aesthetic, mood and personality. The garden is also an elegant dynamic, constantly attracting people's attention.
