VAUST Studio’s holistic interior design concept for the renovation of this old Duesseldorf based apartment seamlessly blends neoclassical elements with Bauhaus notes, resulting in a harmonious fusion of tradition and modernity anchored in a puristic approach. Embracing the neoclassical heritage of the space, emphasis is placed on timeless elegance and symmetry.
Architectural details such as ornate moldings and cornices are preserved to honor the historical character of the apartment. At the same time, the Bauhaus influence brings a contemporary sensibility to the design, prioritizing functionality and simplicity. Clean lines, geometric forms, and a monochromatic color palette create a sense of clarity and order throughout the space.
In keeping with the principles of minimalism, clutter is minimized to enhance an overall sense of tranquility and balance. Natural materials such as wood, stone, and metal are used to add warmth and texture.
At the same time these materials are taken to another level of context through their translation into a more contemporary reconsideration of use: Stones made of polystyrene, aggregate concrete formed to tables and aluminium polished to mirrors.
