The Assumption of Mary Church was designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto and is located on The Riola di Vergato, a magnificent baptistery completed in 1978 in The small town of Riola, 8km south of Bologna, Italy. It is the only building designed by Alvar Aalto in Italy.

The Assumption of Mary Church is a stunning concrete form that mimics and modulates The contours of its Italian landscape. Alvar Aalto's engaging modernist architecture captures the spirit of the mountainous environment. It is a spiritual structure that, from the inside out, humbly expresses the sanctity of faith and place.
