Hong Kong-based architect Andre Fu will present a 150-piece lifestyle collection, including precious metals and fabrics such as cashmere and silk, at Milan Design Week. Called Modern Reflections, this lifestyle collection of home furnishings and decorative accessories includes a wide variety of furniture, cutlery, blankets, projectiles, stationery, lighting, bedding, rugs, and more.
André Fu has said he loves the vibrancy and energy of Salone. He believes this is the best time and place to show the point his brand wants to make. His latest collection draws on his experience designing interiors for luxury hotels and restaurants, as well as his personal childhood memories of "important places and different cultures" to create a collection of objects designed to convey "understated elegance".
André Fu wanted to challenge himself by managing an independent lifestyle collection of housewares and decorative accessories that encapsulated the key elements of his style and set the goal of creating something tangible. Blankets, for example, are handmade by him in Italy using materials of cashmere and silk, while the three different tableware collections feature delicate porcelain and hand-painted gold decorations.
In a way, it's a celebration of the many things André Fu has learned from within the hospitality industry to create a backdrop around everyday life. But the key difference is that hotels are spatially driven, whereas the world of housewares is about immerging people in an environment.
Unlike their predecessors, the current generation is living in a digital age constantly interrupted by social media. It's important to be able to take a step back. This means having time and space to reflect on one's journey. This echoes André Fu's strong belief that people need to learn from the past in order to foster creativity. But for him, the real luxury is in the experience, not just the aesthetics.
