Banda Property

Penthouse 09

Described as "like an early Impressionist master painting", the penthouse apartment designed by Banda Property founder Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi for his own home in idyllic London is mesmerizing to step inside. He explained that the peaceful energy he felt when he entered the apartment was where he wanted to sit and relax in the evenings with his family or by himself."

Wabi-sabi had a great influence on Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. It is a Japanese philosophy advocating "beauty of imperfection". As a result, the founder's interior facade features a harsh earthy texture finish, with a palette of olive and taupe tones. The rustic materials reveal a luxurious taste, giving a natural, tranquil and soft enjoyment of the space.

Inspired by The Shakespeare in The Squares show at The Center Garden, The Penthouse 09 Penthouse is dominated by natural hues, from olive to taupe. This serene hue is made of plaster, has depth and, like many pieces of furniture in the home, is designed to have a human, handmade feel. His first decision on the house was to add a double-height ceiling to the open-plan living area, punctuated by impressive antique oak beams that had to be hoisted up to the private terrace above.

Marble is a hobby of Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. It was because of his native Italy that he sought out beautiful stones to use in this apartment that he was inspired to create "Kwanza ", Banda's first furniture collection. While furniture from this collection is not to be found in this home, the bold Nero Marquina fireplace supports the soft space, echoing their geometry.
