The house was designed by Tokyo interior design studio CUBO Architects for an international couple living in Japan, France and the United States, a French artist and his Japanese wife who are interested in the aesthetics of Japanese gardens as well as Japanese culture and architecture. The house sits on a hill in Japan's historic city of kamakura, overlooking the shoonan coast and overlooking Japan's iconic Mount Fuji.
The client initially became interested in Japanese culture through the traditional tea ceremony and has long developed an interest in Japanese gardens. After finally settling permanently in Japan, they set out to make the house their dream home. In addition to their own family comfort, it is important that the house be able to accommodate guests from overseas and, as a guest house, will also provide an architectural feast for the eyes.
Based on the client's request, the studio identified the following architectural themes: incorporating the symbolic beauty of the surrounding nature and the available views into the building, so that the building is in harmony with the site. Adopt modern Japanese style, combine traditional method, practice and material at the same time. Allow guests to experience the comfortable aesthetics of Japan through the architecture.
