In the heart of Rioja Alavesa, Spain, beautiful vineyards stretch across the landscape like poetry. Thanks to the meticulous transformation of Febrero Studio, Chateau Contino is integrated into the landscape with a new look. It is no longer just a building, but an ode to time, design and heritage, each "note" as if to whisper the story of the past.
Chateau Contino dates back to the 16th century and was the first chateau chateau in Rioja Alavesa. Time settles in the ancient stone walls, and the wine quietly ferments in the underground cellars, emitting fascinating aromas. The renovation aims to connect this long history with every visitor who arrives, making the space itself a medium for telling the history of wine.
Febrero Studio transforms a former grain silo building into a vibrant visitor center. The interior features a bar, a tasting room, a boutique and a reception area that blends the past and the present with modern elements while retaining the original rustic charm.
Respecting history, the design team retained the winery's stone facades and brick columns decorated with black wood, and injected modern functional needs on this basis. The interior is delimited by soft linen curtains and custom wine racks, which both continue the old spirit and create a new experience for visitors.
For Jesus Diaz Osuna, co-founder of Febrero Studio, "Our mission was to respect the building while creating a space that would immerse visitors in Contino's story,"
The remodeling of the project was not limited to the interior of the building; the surrounding gardens and paths were also redesigned. Febrero Studio's elaborate walking route guides visitors through the estate, with stops along the way that allow them to perceive the beauty of the estate from a new perspective.
The walking route ends at an iron viewing platform with panoramic views of the vineyards. It becomes a place of contemplation for visitors, who feel a deep connection with nature, surrounded by stunning views.
Today, the newly renovated Contino Winery is an iconic place where wine, design and history meet, offering wine enthusiasts, design enthusiasts and explorers of history a unique place where tradition and innovation converge. Here, space and history are reshaped to tell the legendary story of Contino's wines.
