This case is a house located in my hometown of Hunan. The purpose of renovating it is to bring my family back and see my hometown more during the Chinese New Year. I am a person with a very hometown plot, and I feel that every corner there has beautiful memories of my childhood! This kind of emotion cannot be given anywhere. Due to the need for career development, coming to Hangzhou thousands of miles away has become a luxury. I named this work "Guixin", which means:; The date of return is uncertain, the scenery is picturesque, and the direction of the heart is the destination. Material things can never satisfy the spiritual world, and people cannot escape their roots no matter where they are! Visiting people and things in my hometown has become an important part of enhancing my sense of happiness! The work showcases a natural and nostalgic temperament, with warm and retro tones and simple and natural materials. Some of the soft furnishings were collected by me when I was a child, as well as old items that I used before. These things can make the space more contextualized. The ground is made of cement colored tiles, and the walls are coated with rough yellow art paint. Some old houses are demolished with logs and locally collected stones are used as embellishments, making the space closer to localization.
——Designer's self description
Time is like a white horse passing through a gap, but memory is fleeting and eternal. Looking back at the bits and pieces of childhood, the past cannot be traced back, and the future is still in sight, so let the past be brought into the day. It belongs to the unique memory of that era, replicated in the current time and space as iconic objects, and linked to the imprint of the 1980s with real and retro scenes. The shoulder pole used in childhood, the stone mound that was collected for many years due to love in youth, and the wood collected during travel in adulthood have all found their place in this home. Memories extend and carry through the future, and the number card of life is repeated several times. Teacher Song once again waved his ink for his home, and the story and meaning he designed have been concretely expressed at this moment. This house, used for occasional vacation in my hometown, does not need to compromise too much on functionality. It blends art and emotions to create a pure and thick narrative space. Based on the rammed earth color scheme, a large number of natural elements are applied indoors, simple, natural, and warm. Memories trace back to the flow of time, what is the past and what is the future. The future will eventually become the past, and the past was also the future.
A high-rise house with north-south transparency purchased from my hometown, with a wide view overlooking the entire city and distant mountains, providing a direct appreciation of the scenery and changes in my hometown. It is perfect for those who only come back during holidays and stay in Hangzhou. Outdoor is hometown, indoor is childhood, connecting the memories of the entire journey of life. The rammed earth color of the old house in childhood is the main color of the space. The tools used in childhood, the raw stones collected from the mountains, and various old objects are rejuvenated in this home. There is no need to say many stories about home and growth, and each frame of this space is self explanatory.
In that era of underdeveloped networks and information, a projector was precious and an important way to communicate with the outside world and art. There are often organized screening activities, and every evening, villagers carry small benches and consciously sit down, waiting for the start of the performance. Memories are brought back to the present, and various electronic devices allow us to search for the content we want to see at any time. However, the curiosity and longing of childhood have become a nostalgic memory that will never come again, as we focus on enjoying it with our neighbors and friends on outdoor screens. If the past cannot be traced, let's take it as a memory. The projector that Teacher Song brought was placed in a prominent position at home, and it can still be played normally. When it first came, there was also a booklet inside, which detailed the playback location and sessions at that time. Full of memories swept through with the weight of the times, and memories seemed to bring back to that bustling evening, with laughter and joy full of novelty.
Using simplicity and naturalness, combined with a sense of rural leisure, to create the entire home space, the house used for vacation and occasional residence does not need to sacrifice its aesthetic appeal, allowing richer elements to be rooted in this home in an artistic and emotional form. The delicate, soft, and naturally textured aniline leather sofa exudes a retro tone; A worn-out wooden coffee table with chiseled patterns that enhances the handmade texture; The wooden pillars collected during the team's trip to Yunnan are placed in front of the screen, while the stones on the pillars are picked from the mountains in their hometown, such as rhinoceroses, bees, or dogs. The abstract form can give it different imaginations and definitions, making it a simple and interesting home full of a sense of story.
The thin and long pointed wooden pole hanging on the side wall of the restaurant is the one that Mr. Song's family used as a child. Now, caring for his parents no longer needs to bear the heavy burden, it has stayed in that era and is now lying in the firewood pile waiting for its end. One day, when Teacher Song accidentally saw it, memories and longing swept through. The old things were picked up and placed in the new home, allowing them to showcase their value in another way. In this home, not only can we see the imprint of the times, but also the inheritance of the family.
The dining and kitchen area was originally divided into several small and scattered spaces, which were reorganized to release space volume and rejuvenate space vitality. The transparent and bright layout leverages its advantages of north-south transparency, knocking off all partition walls to create an open kitchen, and combining load-bearing columns to create a staggered structure to generate an island platform. The house foundation is functionally placed in combination with the shape, with a reasonable layout, smooth flow, and broad vision.
The several wooden pillars that come into view upon entering serve as obstacles to the foyer and interior space. The wood is sourced from the countryside and has a history of nearly a century. After surface treatment, it is directly used for decoration to preserve its purest style. The old-fashioned radio on the shoe cabinet was a precious and trendy benchmark of that era, and it was essential for weddings at that time. Even if it was not available at home, one had to borrow it. An object was a story of an era.The beige stone mound next to the side cabinet was already collected by Teacher Song at the age of fifteen or sixteen, as if everything had a trace to follow. He had a obsessive preference for this kind of thing since childhood, and after collecting it for many years, the "treasure" was given new value as a designer. I found a suitable place for it in my new home, whether it's a shoe changing stool or a decoration. At this moment, my young actions have completed a closed loop, and the story of this home is gradually becoming clearer.
A small space on the left side of the house is used as a leisure area - for tea and meditation, and to invite three or five friends to chat and reminisce about the past. The stone on the walls of the room is natural stone, which was picked from the mountains near my hometown. The material is rough and the texture is natural. Simple and authentic, it is perfectly suited to this elegant and leisurely space.
Expanding the space with a natural and peaceful sleeping atmosphere, the curtain box adds a rustic and elegant charm with wooden elements, echoing and continuing the entire home style. Using soft furnishings instead of excessive styling, the entire space is simple and peaceful. The old TV set collected on the bedside cabinet can be seen with snowflakes and rustling sounds when opened. Old objects that have been eliminated by the times can once again hear its sound, and my thoughts return to that childhood when the picture quality is unclear and signal is often lost, and there are few TV stations found but I enjoy watching them.
