Mircea Anghel
I tend to reflect on a particular piece of wood for months or even years, contemplating its form and trying to uncover its hidden beauty and aesthetic.
Mircea Anghel, born in Romania in 1986, is an internationally renowned artist and designer based in Portugal. Mircea Anghel has shown a special interest in mathematics since childhood, always taking pleasure in solving problems. He moved to Lisbon in 2001 to study economics at the University of Lisbon and pursued a career in finance before pursuing his passion for collection design.
Mircea Anghel established her own design Studio Cabana Studio in 2015. In 2019, in need of space for his larger creations, he moved his studio in the Portuguese capital to a 1,500-square-meter sawmill, located in Herdade da Barrosinha, a rural estate in Alcacer do Sal. And incorporates his mathematical background into works that defy the laws of engineering.
Mircea Anghel practice celebrates natural processes where every piece is made by hand that have either been salvaged from storms or responsibly sourced. Found around the world, the materials carry a story that Anghel cultivates. The unpredictability and daring in the architecture of his designs draw on this mathematical background, skewing perception and form to bring to life singular pieces that are immediately captivating.
