The project is located in Greentowm Peach Blossom Land, Yiwu City, Zhejiang Province. Having an indoor area of about 510 square meters, the overall building is divided into four floors. Creating a comfortable and free living space for the habitants is the core of the project design.
Starting from three main living pivots, the first floor is unfolded into kitchen, living room and dining room. As the center of the habitants' daily activities, the kitchen space is extended due to the elimination of the boundary wall, and the overall interior circulation becomes more flexible accordingly. The support column of original building stands from the roof to floor in the block which connects the kitchen and dining room. Triangles are used to change the original skeleton structure in the design, and the natural stone texture is used for the surface decoration.
The drainage pipe of original building is located inside the wall structure next to the dining room. In order to adapt and balance the vision, the ordered geometry is mirror replicated before applying to the wall surface. A dividing unit is added in the space between the living room and the parents' room, which enables the main area and the secondary to be integrated in a blurred relationship. Because of the enough thickness, practical function is brought to the unit, which makes it an independent entity, rather than a plain shape.
A parabolic line is used to connect from the beginning to the end at the top of living room and bedroom in the second floor. The sliding doors on the left and right sides can be concealed in the wall that is inserted in the longitudinal axis. In this way, the two wholes become connected while the respective independence is maintained.
On the top of the first basement, a square geometry is placed, whose interior is like a huge container with the storage function. The grid edge of the geometry is shifted to the right from its outer side by human intervention, creating a conscious spatial deformation for the habitants. Five transparent boxes are reserved in the upper void space at outer part of the geometry, so as to bring light into the room, which can increase the natural thickness to the space through the shadow and refraction.
The comparison is formed by two different colors of wood finishes on the main surfaces of the storage cabinets and the wall of the lounge tea bar. Communication between materials occurs due to the correspondence between cabinet surface and the folding door.
