Tlalpuente House

Tlalpuente house by Mexican firm PPAA is located in a neighborhood in Mexico City's southern Tlalpan district, a hilly, forested area known for its ecological reserve. PPAA's Tlalpuente house blends into the forest landscape of Mexico City, with superb views and no need to protect the privacy of its residents, as there are no neighbors.

The 350-square-metre three-storey building consists of two floors and a basement with dark cladding on the top and concrete walls on the bottom. PPAA partitioned the square home into nine Spaces, with terraces, Windows and skylights that provide views while letting in natural light.

For a secluded site, the purpose of creating a house that "explores the relationship between the house and its environment" was to establish a dialogue between the natural landscape and architecture. "The architectural concept addresses the plan to create an open basement on the natural terrain," said studio PPAA in a project description. "The intersection of basic geometry and structure determines the space of the house."

The main level has common areas and a bedroom, as well as two terraces at opposite corners. The porch combines a large number of Windows to bring in sunlight and breeze, and connects to the strong forest landscape. A spacious, double-height living room dominates the center of the house; The common area opens onto the terrace through retractable glass walls, providing opportunities for indoor and outdoor living.

The upper level contains several private rooms arranged around openings overlooking the ground. Skylights bring sunlight into the interior and enhance the ventilated atmosphere. While the interiors complement the natural environment, wood is used for floors, ceilings and finishes; Ivory walls and white kitchen cabinets provide a soft contrast to the warm-toned wood.
