Designed by architects Jun Aoki & Associates and Peter Marino, the facade of the Louis vuitton Osaka store is based on the sails of an old Japanese merchant ship. Japanese architecture firm Jun Aoki & Associates designed the store in collaboration with New York architecture studio Peter Marino. Its facade is based on the translucent sails of the shop facade, a traditional higaki-kaisen cargo ship that references the city's history as an important port. They filter light into the room during the day, creating a lantern-like effect at night. The purity of the facade is enhanced by the metallic motif on the ground floor.
Peter Marino is known for incorporating art into architecture, designing for some of the most iconic brands in the fashion and art world. His designs are often characterized by an emphasis on materials, textures, light proportions and constant dialogue between interior and exterior. By placing equal emphasis on architecture and interior design, Peter Marino has redefined the meaning of modern luxury.
