Pip Rice
Expressing the movement and freedom of the botanical world with traditional weaving techniques, finding inspiration in the forms, colors and textures of trees, which combine strength and fragility.
As a photo stylist, Pip Rice has spent many years finding beautiful objects made by others; So Pip Rice wanted to create something of her own. Pip Rice began by experimenting with plants from her garden to make objects, then travelled further afield to find natural materials before completing a two-year knitting course at Urban Literature.
Pip Rice strives to create baskets that use traditional weaving techniques to express the movement and freedom of the plant world. Gradually, Pip Rice found inspiration in the form, color and texture of trees, which combine strength and vulnerability. She creates aesthetically pleasing artworks by weaving, winding and bending plant materials. And constantly in dialogue with natural materials, allowing them to evolve organically and change subtly over time.
Pip Rice likes to use natural materials to create a unique basket language. Pip Rice's practice is to share her own experience of nature; Looking for smaller moments in her daily urban life that collectively describe the experience of the season, Pip Rice strives to blend art, nature, and joy. The creations are constantly evolving, and the range of colors expands with natural tones and marks the passage of time, displaying all their poetry and modernity.
