Maison Margiela2018 AW collection "Artisanal" focuses on what current creative director Ohn Galliano calls the "original, undiluted essence" of fashion brands. The show's plaster cast set, designed by Dutch architect Anne Holtrop, sets a precedent for the brand's latest store concept, which was unveiled in London's Bruton Street. Paris Avenue Montaigne has formed a new version.

Maison Margiela in Paris is a two-storey, 250-square-metre retail building whose environment reflects the idea of touch, as evidenced by its plaster walls and columns. The hand-cast textile molds feature a nod to the sculptural crafts of clothing design and encourage the same "human touch" to enter the creative process, as the company explains.

For furniture, shelves, display tables and chairs, Holtrop was influenced by classic objects, deconstructing their forms with stained travertines and contrasting colored epoxy resins. The brightness of the main space is juxtaposed with the fitting room, which is covered in a high-gloss dark green paint reminiscent of a Japanese lacquer cabinet.
