Enfants Rouges Apartment

Interiors Houses Paris 2024-08-28

Enfants Rouges area is the starting point and centerpiece of this Parisian apartment. The unique geometry of the place is used to its best: The narrowness of the entrance is balanced by the depth effect of the black bathroom, as well as by a set of mirrors concealing the unsightly masonry and technical elements.  The large living-dining room, which opens up in its full width, offers a landscape composed of a succession of arrangements, shapes, dimensions, and different colours.

Each line is stretched towards another in a 360° view. The large bedroom becomes the background of the living room, just as the small bedroom becomes the background of the kitchen; the secondary space brings out the perspective and its depth. Custom fittings take place in every exploitable corner of the apartment while blending into the overall geometry. In the living room, the variety of fittings, with the suspended sideboard, the low Alpi-wood (E. Sottsass) furniture, the white/grey/black tones and the chocolate brown oiled oak window sills, form a harmonious and contrasting ensemble.

Contemporary treatment rules over the ambiance with a uniform and continuous flooring covering in all rooms, which spreads and penetrates each space while, ceilings and partitions correct the roughness of the existing structure.A modernity that reveals the history of the place: original terracotta tiles and ceiling beams are preserved in the living space, showcasing the oldest district of Paris. The slightly orange-tinged blood red of the kitchen surprises, used as an absolute monochrome, as the stainless steel kitchen reflects the warm hues of this red.

The slightly orange-tinged blood red of the kitchen surprises, used as an absolute monochrome, as the stainless steel kitchen reflects the warm hues of this red.The furniture and decoration assert the architectural intentions: a touch of Italian romanticism at the entrance of the kitchenaccompanied by the creative madness of Sottsass and his antidesign, brutalist furniture on the terracotta tiles of the living room, vintage 50s postmodernist furniture in the simplicity of the living room.A balanced ensemble that surprises while grounding the arrangements in a stable lightness.
